Sebastian BAROTE


Captain (CAPT) Sebastian BAROTE, a native of Constanța, Romania, was born on the 28th of October, 1977. He graduated the Naval Academy in 2001 and was comissioned as an Ensign. He served his first year at sea as a Navigation Officer on-board Fast Patrol Boat 189 „Pescărușul”.

During his assignment in the Fast Patrol Boat Squardon, he was also appointed as a Surface Warfare Officer on-board the same ship and then as a staff officer.

Captain Barote had several shore postings and, between 2008 and 2011, served as an Operations Officer at the Romanian Fleet Command. He later performed the dutys of executive assistent to the Chief of Romanian Naval Forces Office, between 2012 and 2016. After National Defense University graduation in 2018, he was appointed Commanding Officer of Fighting Ship 265 „Contraamiral Horia Macellariu”. After his command, he served as the Chief of Staff of the Romanian MCM Squadron from 2020 to 2022. Between 2022-2025 he was assigned as Deputy Commander of the same Squadron.

A Surface Warfare Officer by trade, he participated in Romanian Deployment under SNMG2 and SNMCMG-2 and performed the duty of Black Sea Subject Matter Expert in MARCOM, during 2019.

His post-graduation education includes various national courses, as well as Surface Warfare Officer School and Naval Staff College in Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

On April 1, 2025, Captain (N) Sebastian BAROTE was appointed as Commander of 50th Corvette Squadron.

Captain Barote received numerous distinctions, including Emblem of Honor from the Romanian General Staff, the Emblem of Honor of the Armed Forces, the Emblem of Honor of Romanian Naval Forces, the Emblem of Honor of Air Forces, Emblem of merit "In the Service of the Romanian Armed Forces". Notably, he was awarded the Non-Article 5 NATO Medal for his services in Operation Sea Guardian.

He is married to Adriana-Magdalena and has two sons.

Captain Barote is fluent in English and Italian.
