DEPUTY CHIEF OF THE ROMANIAN NAVAL FORCES FOR OPERATIONS AND TRAINING

 Mihai PANAIT

Rear Admiral (Lower Half) Mihai PANAIT was born on March 27, 1968 in Tițești, Argeș.
He graduated from Navy College “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” in 1986 and from Romanian Naval Academy “Mircea cel Bătrân” in 1991. On April 12, 1990 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant JG.
Once graduated, he began his military career as Operations Officer on board of Minesweeper „Remus Lepri”(MS 24), and continued as Executive Officer of Minesweeper ”Dimitrie Nicolescu”(MS 29) between 1994-1996, Operations Officer in the MCM Squadron, between 1996-1997 and Operations Officer in the MCM Brigade, between 1997-1999.
On September 19, 1995 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

In 2001 he was accepted to National Defense University and after graduation in 2001 he was appointed Commanding Officer of the Minelayer ”IOAN MURGESCU”(ML 271) and later on was promoted to Chief of Staff within the same Squadron.
On July 31, 2002 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander and on June 30, 2006 to the rank of Commander.

In 2007 he was appointed Deputy Commanding Officer of the MCM Squadron and continued as Operations Officer EOD and Force Protection of the Naval Operational Componnent, in 2008-2009.

In 2009 he was appointed as Commanding Officer of the “REGELE FERDINAND”(FF 221) until 2013 when he was promoted as Deputy Chief of Staff for Training Branch on the Fleet Command (including Commanding Officer of the Romanian Task Group, six months rotation - first rotation 2013, 2014 and 2016). On January 01, 2011 he was promoted to the rank of Captain.
On July 01, 2016 he was appointed as Chief of Staff on the Fleet Command. On December 01, 2017 he was promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral (LH).

On January 01, 2018 he was assigned and starting with 15th of June he was apointed as Deputy Chief of the Romanian Naval Forces for Operations and Training.

His developing training began in 1997 with the MCM Staff Course, Naval Academy „Mircea cel Bătrân”- Constanta, Romania, Naval Staff Course, Naval Academy „Mircea cel Bătrân”- Constanta, Romania, between 1998 – 1999, Training Programme on board BNS Godetia - Belgium, 2005, Joint Staff Course, Romanian Air Forces Staff - Bucharest, 2005, Training Programme for Command Team - Den Helder, Netherlands, 2005, Naval Command College - Newport, Rhode Island, USA, 2009, Joint Strategic Leadership Course – National Defense University”Carol I” - Bucuresti, 2014, Combined Force Maritime Component Commanders Flag Course – Naples, Italy, 2017, Security and Good Governance Course – National Defense University”Carol I” - Bucuresti, 2018.

During his career, RADM (LH) Mihai PANAIT was awarded with Romanian General Staff "Emblem of Honor", Romanian Navy "Emblem of Honor", “Honorable Citizen of the Rhode Island State”, USA, 2008, The Badge „Participate on the International Missions”, 2011 (Operation Unified Protector ), The Order ‘’The Maritime Virtue’’ in rank of Knight 2011, Romania, The Officer of the year 2011, 2012 - Romanian Navy and Romanian General Staff, “The Common Security and Defense Policy Service” Medal, European Union, 2012 – Atalanta Operation, “The Order of Maritime Virtue in rank of Comandor”, 2016, Romania, Romanian Air Force "Emblem of Honor", 2018.

RADM (LH) PANAIT speaks fluently English Language. He is married to Magdalena Cristina and has one daughter, Iulia.
