Commander of the Frigate "REGINA MARIA"

Alin Vasile

He was born on August 19, 1984 in Dragășani, Vâlcea County.

His military education began at the „Mihai Viteazul” Military High School in Alba Iulia (1999–2003) and continued at the „Mircea cel Bătrân” Naval Academy in Constanța, from which he graduated in 2008.

During his career, he developed his training through a series of courses, hosted both in-country and abroad, as follows: Maritime Security and Law Enforcement (U.S. Defense Institute of International Legal Studies, 2008), Naval Tactics and Procedures (ROU Naval Training School, 2010), International Division Officers Course (Surface Warfare Officers School, 2010), Advanced Course for Naval Officers (ROU Naval Training School, 2014), Staff Course for Naval Officers (ROU Naval Training School, 2016), Intermediate Maritime International Humanitarian Law (U.S. Defense Institute of International Legal Studies, 2025).
Between 2018 and 2020, he earned a Master's degree in Military Sciences and Intelligence, specializing in Joint Naval Forces Command, at the Command and General Staff Faculty of the „Carol I” National Defense University.

Upon his graduation from the Naval Academy, he was assigned to the Romanian antisubmarine corvette „Cam. Eustațiu SEBASTIAN”. There, he subsequently served as Navigation Officer (2008–2011), Head of the Operations Department (2011–2013), and Executive Officer (2013–2016). Between 2016-2018, he was assigned as staff officer in the Operations Planning Office at the Romanian Fleet Command. Following the completion of his Master's studies in 2020, he assumed command of the fast patrol boat ROS „Lăstunul” (190), a position he held until February 2024, when he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Romanian 150th Missile Fast Patrol Boat Squadron. Starting with 2024, he was temporarily assigned as Executive Officer of the Romanian frigate „Mărășești” (2025) and Deputy Commander of the Romanian 150th Missile Fast Patrol Boat Squadron (2025-2026).
Since July 2026, he has exercised command of the frigate ROS „Regina Maria” (F-222).

His international experience includes multiple participation in both regional initiatives and multinational operations and exercises. As a crewmember of ROS SEBASTIAN, CO of ROS LASTUNUL, as a planner or embarked as staff officer, he took part in several activations of the multinational BLACKSEAFOR Task Group (2009, 2011, 2012, 2013), as well as in Operation ATLANTIC RESOLVE SOUTH – Black Sea Resolve Events (2014–2015). He subsequently participated in the multinational exercises SEA BREEZE (2014, 2015), POSEIDON (2016, 2017), SEA SHIELD (2015-2026), BREEZE (2021), MEDUSA (2022).
He was twice assigned as Chief of Staff for the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 in 2024, from July to December 2024, under Canadian and Turkish leadership, and again in 2025, during Romania’s tenure as CTG 440.03 of NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian.

In recognition of his service, he has been awarded the Naval Forces Emblem of Honor (2021), the NATO Meritorious Service Medal (2025) and the Canadian Joint Operation Command Commendation (2025).

He is fluent in English.
