Commanding Officer of F221 "Regele Ferdinand" Frigate

George-Victor DUREA


Captain George-Victor DUREA was born on the 8th of February 1975 in Târgu Bujor (Galați County).

He served eighteen years at sea on various ships. As Naval Academy graduate, at the age of 23, he was firstly appointed as commanding officer of a fast boat for divers. After 6 years he had the command of a bigger diver ship. His next appointment was as head of the navigation department on a training ship. Between 2007 and 2016 he served on the Frigate ”Regele Ferdinand” as officer of the watch, navigator and principal warfare officer, participating during this period in Operation Active Endeavour, Operation Unified Protector, under NATO command, and Operation Atalanta of the European Union.

After his ashore appointments as a bureau head in the Radio-electronic and Surveillance Brigade and the Maritime Component Command, starting with the 15th of January 2020 he has been appointed as commanding officer of the Frigate ”Regele Ferdinand” – 221.

He holds a master’s degree in Joint Command and his education also includes Department Head Course at International Surface Warfare Officer School (USA), Defense and Operational Planning Course (Defense College of Netherlands) and training tours on French and Italian ships.

He is married to Alina-Louisa and together they have two daughters and one son.

He is fluent in English and French.
