Historical overview


The squadron was established on August 1st, 2002, as a result of the reorganization of the two auxiliary ship squadrons belonging to 335 and 330 Logistics Sections. It was named "Auxiliary Ship Squadron " and was placed under the authority of Maritime Base 1 from that moment on. On May 1st, 2005, the squadron's name was changed to its current designation, the Special Vessels Squadron. The Special Vessels Squadron carries on the tradition of the former Auxiliary Ship Squadron, established in 1964, which was directly subordinated to 42 Maritime Division.

The 129 Special Vessels and Logistics Support Squadron is subordinated to the Naval Base Headquarters and carries out search and rescue missions, towing operations, boarding/unshipping tasks, fuel transportation, and ship maneuvering operations; participation with forces and resources in supporting the civilian population, limiting and mitigating the effects of disasters in emergency situations.

The squadron includes the following ships: tugboat Viteazul (101), tugboat Vanjosul (105), two maritime oil tanks (531 and 532), Randunica and Luceafarul two maritime command boats, and the maritime flag ship Egreta.
