HISTORICAL OVERVIEW



Based on the Order of the Ministry of Armed Forces no. CL 0856 of 19.06.1963, on 15.06.1963 was founded the 133rd Fast Patrol Boats Squadron, deployed in Mangalia, having the following composition: the squadron command structure, missile boat no. 1, missile boat no. 2, missile boat no. 3, command ship (floating HQ and barracks) „Ialomița”, 2 Technical Units.

On 17.12.1963, the first missile boat, project 205 (OSA class), arrived from the USSR and on 30.12.1963 was commissioned into Romanian Navy’s service as part of the 133rdFast Patrol Boats Squadron. The missile boat number 2 was commissioned on 25.10.1964 and the missile boat number 3 on 10.12.1964. On 27.12.1964, was commissioned the missile boat number 4, and 10 months later, on 01.10.1965, the missile boat number 5. Starting with this date, the squadron operates with the 5 missile boats until 1981, when the sixth unit, built in Mangalia Shipyard, entered into the Romanian Navy’s service.

Starting with 1970, hull numbers 194 to 199 have been assigned to the six missile boats, project 205.

The first real missile launch was carried out in Sevastopol firing range on 13.06.1964, with very good results.

During the Revolution of December 1989, the missile boats were tasked to patrol and protect the Romanian sea lines of communications.

Starting withSeptember 10th, 1990, the first missile boatproject 1241RE (TARANTUL class), with the name „Zborul” and the hull number 188, enters into the RomanianNavy’s service, as part of the 133rdFast Patrol Boats Squadron. „Zborul” is followed a year later, on December 27th 1991, by another two missile boats, respectively „Pescărușul” (hull number 189) and„Lăstunul” (hull number 190).

On January 1992, by order of the Minister of National Defence no. M07663/ 18.12.1991, the 150thMissile Boats Squadron was established, consisting of three missile boats: „Zborul” (188), „Pescărușul” (189) and,,Lăstunul” (190). Subsequently, on 22.12.1992, the command ship (floating HQ and barracks) „Olănești”, was commisioned as part of the 150th Missile Boats Squadron, based on the order of the Romanian Navy commander no. 13/22.12.1992.

On December 15th, 2000, based on the order of the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces no. MO 228/06.12.2000, the 150th Missile Boats Squadron is reconfigured by integrating into its structure the last three OSA class I missile boats of the 133rd Fast Patrol Boats Squadron: „Zborul” (188), „Pescăruşul” (189), „Lăstunul” (190), „Şoimul” (194), „Eretele” (198), „Albatrosul”(199) and the command ship (floating HQ and barracks) „Olănești”

On June 30, 2004, based on the approval of the Chief of General Staff on the report of the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Naval Forces no. BS 267/06.05.2004, the three OSA I class missile boats „Şoimul” (194), „Eretele” (198), „Albatrosul” (199) are decommissioned.

As of May 1st, 2005, the 150th Missile Boats Squadron becomes the 150thNaval MissilesSquadron (based on the Chief of General Staff disposition no. B5/S/2924 of 16.12.2004) by reorganization, restructuring and integration of the 508thCoastal Missile Squadron, consisting of: the command ship (floating HQ and barracks) „Olănești”, the Missile Boats Section ( with „Zborul” (188), „Pescăruşul” (189), „Lăstunul” (190)) and the Naval Missiles Section (composed of the Launch Group consisting of 4 missile carrier vehicles – the „Rubezh” Coastal defense missile system, the Mobile Technical Unit and the SupportUnit).

Starting with March 1st, 2009, based on the provisions of the Chief of General Staff no. G.2/S/109/02.02.2009, the 150th Naval Missiles Squadron incorporates the C.B.R.N. Defense Coy and on September 1st, 2010, by the Chief of General Staff order no. G./S/1243/13.08.2010, the unit is restructured by exiting the Mobile Technical Unit from the composition of the Naval Missile Section.

On November 1st, 2015, based on the provisions of the Chief of General Staff no. G./0110 from 04.09.2015 and no. G./0114 of 04.09.2015, the 150th Naval Missiles Squadron is restructured and, as a result,part of the Naval Missile Section is resized and renamed.

Continuing the restructuring process, the Naval Missile Section (together with the C.B.R.N. Defense Coy) exit the structure of the 150thNaval Missile Squadron, by the Chief of General Staff order no. G(S)-1350 of 01.09.2017, on August 1st2017, respectively by the Provision of the Chief of General Staff no. G(S)-1027 from 07.07.2017 on October 1st2017.

Currently, the 150th Naval Missile Squadron, composed of the command ship (floating HQ and barracks) „Olănești” and the missile boats „Zborul” (188), „Pescăruşul” (189) and „Lăstunul” (190), is the continuation of the traditions of Romanian missile boats and constantly evolves on the coordinates of modernity, succeeding in enrolling in the history of the Romanian Naval Forces of outstanding results.
