Historical overview

On November 30 1987, based on the Disposition of the General Staff, nr. B2/00350 of 31 August 1987, the 460th Coastal Missile Battery was established, deployed in the Mangalia garrison, and subordinated to the 42nd Maritime Division, and in March 1988 the unit completed its combat technique.

On May 18,1989 MU 02144 carried out a missile strike in the Tuzla firing range.

On July 30, 1990 based on the Disposition of the General Staff nr. B2/003530, the 460th Coastal Missile Battery becomes 508th Coastal Missile Squadron.

On May 1, 2005 based on the Disposition of the General Staff nr. B5/S2924 of 16 December 2004 the 508th Coastal Missile Squadron turns into the Coastal Defense Missile Section, being integrated into the 150th Missile Fast Patrol Boat Squadron.

On August 1, 2017 based on the Disposition of the General Staff nr.G/S792 of 31 May 2017, the 508th Coastal Missile Squadron was established, a subordinate to the Fleet, and starting with 01 October 2017, the 585th CBRN Defense Company came under de 508th Coastal Missile Squadron.
