MISSIONS OF THE 67th RIVERINE GUNBOAT SQUADRON

The 67th Riverine Gunboat Squadron has an important role in Romania's security and defense, being an effective national means of participating in regional cooperation initiatives.

In order to contribute to the security of Romania in peacetime and to support state institutions and state authorities in case of civil emergencies, the division can perform the following missions/deduced tasks:
• Discouraging illegal actions on the river, through active presence in high-risk districts/routes;
• Intervention in support of the national authorities, to combat naval terrorism, piracy, the prohibition of illicit traffic of dangerous goods on the river;
• Supervision and transport in order to limit and eliminate disasters, evacuation on the river, as well as the protection of the civilian population and material assets;
• Search – rescue on the river;
• Support granted in case of a CBRN accident;
• Monitoring river traffic and adjacent to it, collecting and transmitting data to the Riverine Flotilla Headquarter.

To participate in the defense of Romania and to promote regional stability, including through the use of defense diplomacy, the division carries out missions of:
• Protection of waterways, ports and transport ships with important loads;
• Destruction of enemy battleships and other forces operating in the river districts;
• Support of land forces operating near the river;
• Participation in crisis response operations, peace support and humanitarian assistance, separation of conflict river areas;
• Joint intervention with the naval forces of other states;
• Participation with forces and means in exercises within NATO, PfP and WEU.
