PLACE AND ROLE OF THE RIVERINE FLOTILLA


The Riverine Flotilla is a large tactical unit, subordinate to the ROU Navy Headquarter, a structure that exerts:
• administrative and operational attributions for the management of the fluvial and terrestrial space out of responsibility;
• evaluation of the structures in the composition;
• the command, control and training of the forces planned for the defense of river and land space, implementing the decisions of the Commander of the Riverine Flotilla regarding the use of river forces independently or in cooperation with other forces, to fulfill the missions;
• participation in the development and implementation of cooperation and operations plans in the area of responsibility for peace, pre-crisis and crisis.

The Riverine Flotilla has the following capabilities:
• combat surface ships – monitors, riverine gunboat, river patrol boat and dredger;
• marine infantry subunits;
• auxiliary ships – floating barracks, tugboats, CEAMs, boats.

ROLE:
• promotion and defense of national interests;
• planning, management and execution of the defense of fluvial, lagoon and land communications, economic and military objectives in the area of responsibility;
• early warning and engagement in low-intensity military actions in the area of responsibility;
• monitoring the fluvial space, adjacent to it and ensuring freedom of navigation on fluvial and land communications;
• achieving the safety of river and land transport in the area of responsibility;
• leading the actions of the fluvial forces in support of the civil authorities in the event of disasters, catastrophes for the rescue and evacuation of the population or the rescue of the crews of ships in danger;
• directing the actions of the fluvial forces in the actions to combat terrorist actions in the fluvial area of responsibility;
• execution of specific missions during military actions.
