Rear Admiral (L.H.) Daniel CĂPĂŢÎNĂ
(2019 - )

Rear Admiral (LH) Daniel Căpăţînă was born in Buzău, on February 6th, 1962.

He graduated from the Military College "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" in 1980 and from the Naval Institute “Mircea cel Bătrân" in 1984. He started his career as an artillery platoon commander within the 545th Artillery Squadron and between 1985 and 1990 he fulfilled his military duties as a diving team commander in the 175th Combat Divers Squadron. Between 1990 and 1993 he attended the courses of the Naval Academy “Mircea cel Bătrân, Staff and Command Faculty. On graduation, he was appointed as the Head of the Operations Office in the 175th Combat Divers Squadron.

In 1995 he was promoted as Chief of Staff of the 175th Combat Divers Squadron. In 2001 he was appointed as Chief of Staff of the 306th Training Ships Squadron of the Naval Academy “Mircea cel Bătrân" and in 2003 he was appointed as the commanding officer of the “Delfinul" submarine. His next duties were as officer in charge with standardization in the Romanian Naval Forces Headquarters, head of the Cartography Office of the Romanian Maritime Hydrographic Directory, head of Traditions and Doctrine Office in the Naval Forces Headquarters, followed by Commanding Officer of the 39th Diving Center.
Starting November 11th, 2015 he was appointed as Fleet Commander and promoted to Rear Admiral (L.H.). On June 25th, 2019 he was appointed as Commander, Naval Operational Command and Deputy Chief of the Romanian Naval Forces.
His professional career development started in 1985 with the Russian language Course and several specialty courses attended between 1987 and 2003, such as Navigation specialists Course in 1987, NATO Peacekeeping Operations course in 1995, and NATO Multinational Brigades Staff Officers in 1997, both in Germany, Oberamergau.
In 2004 he attended the post-universitary Leadership Course and in 2010 the War-College Strategic Course, both at the National Defense University "Carol-I".


In the appreciation of his merits in the service, he was decorated with: “Emblem of Honor” from Armed Forces, General Staff, Naval Forces, and other commands, The Emblem of Merit 3rd Grade "Military Service" and the Honorific Insignia “Service in the Armed Forces” for his 15, 20 and 25 years of activity.
