Historical overview


By the Decision of the Supreme Council of National Defense No. 27 from April 25th, 2002, the Maritime Base 1 was established on August 1st, 2002, as the major logistics support unit for the Naval Forces in the coastal area. Starting from May 1st, 2005, based on the order of the Minister of National Defense No. M.S.-179 dated December 14th, 2004, by taking the river logistical sections under its command, Maritime Base 1 was transformed into a Naval Base, currently known as the Naval Logistics Base.

The Naval Logistics Base “Pontica” is the logistical pillar of the Naval Forces, responsible for executing logistic support missions for all structures within its area of responsibility. The missions of this structure are multiple and derive from the objectives of the Romanian Naval Forces, including: planning, organizing, and dynamically and efficiently executing logistic support for the units and major units under the Naval Forces Staff deployed at sea, on the river, and in the Dobrogea territory; supplying the materials, products, and services for the implementation of training and combat readiness programs, as well as the setup of material reserves within the allocated funds, in accordance with legal provisions; concluding procurement contracts for goods and services; ensuring the maintenance of combat equipment and installations on the ships belonging to the Fleet Command and own vessels; safely and promptly executing rescue operations, equipment and material supply, towing in ports, at sea and on the river, under difficult and normal hydro-meteorological conditions, during day and night time; participation in humanitarian missions under the auspices of international organizations and providing logistic support, as ordered, to naval vessels from the Naval Forces participating in naval cooperation activities in the Black Sea; timely and high-quality execution of repairs and installation works, as well as commissioning of combat equipment on board ships and in land-based units; ensuring the conditions for feeding, equipping, and accommodating personnel; timely and secure execution of mobilization, in accordance with established timelines, for support structures and own units; providing accommodation for the Naval Forces personnel through garrison barracks, carrying out routine repair works, either through contracted companies or by self-management, at the barracks under the administration of the Naval Forces; participation, alongside other specialized structures, in mitigating the effects of disasters occurring on the territory of Dobrogea. The unit’s structure includes the Navy Flag Ship Mures, stationed at Braila Port.
